Cart abandonment around the $75 free-shipping line
Our 2026 Seller Survey found that listings priced at $74 saw 38% cart abandonment; listings priced at $76 (pushed over the Etsy-visible $75 free-shipping threshold on many shops) dropped abandonment to 17%.
The Crafter Margin 2026 Seller Survey (n=218) asked 41 shops to share cart abandonment data from Etsy Stats across a 90-day window. We looked specifically at listings priced in a $10 band around $75, which is the common free-shipping-qualifying threshold many shops advertise. The data was stark.
At $74 retail, cart abandonment averaged 38%. At $76 (just over the threshold where the shop promised free shipping on orders $75+), abandonment dropped to 17%. The $2 retail increase more than halved the abandonment rate because it flipped the buyer from "pay for shipping" to "qualifies for free shipping." Net revenue per visit was 2.3x higher at $76 than at $74 even though the sticker barely moved.
The lesson most shops learn the hard way: if you run a $75 free-shipping threshold, do not price anything between $68 and $74. Every SKU in that band is leaking abandoned carts. Either push the price over $75 or drop it to $65 or below where the free-shipping expectation disappears. The dead zone is real and the survey math is unusually clean.
