How Much Do You Keep from a $25 Etsy Sale?

You keep
About $21.70 before your own costs on a $25 sale with $5 shipping to a US buyer
Effective take
Etsy takes roughly 11% of the gross on a typical $25 order
$25 is the center of Etsy pricing. Walk through any craft category on the platform and most listings cluster between $15 and $35, with $25 as the modal sticker price. It is where a 20oz sublimation tumbler lives, where a simple HTV shirt lives, where a custom vinyl decal set lives. Understanding what you actually keep from a $25 sale is the single most useful fee math you can run.
Most sellers round the math wrong. They see $25 minus 6.5% transaction fee and calculate $23.38. Real take-home after the full fee stack (transaction, payment processing, listing fee, regulatory if international) is closer to $21.70 on a typical US $25 sale with shipping charged separately. The gap between those two numbers is about $1.70 per sale, which is a significant portion of the margin on a cheap item.
This page breaks down every fee Etsy charges on a $25 sale, shows what products typically list at this price, and embeds the fee calculator pre-filled with $25 so you can adjust shipping, country, and ad settings. Use it before you list your next $25 item.

Step 1 of 4
Fees on a $25 Etsy sale
Start with the gross. A typical $25 item on Etsy is listed with $5 shipping charged, putting gross revenue at $30. Transaction fee is 6.5% of gross, or $1.95. Payment processing for a US buyer is 3% plus $0.25, or $1.15. Listing fee is $0.20 per listing (amortized to about $0.02 per sale if you renew every four months). Regulatory operating fee is zero for US buyers. Total fees on a US $25 sale with $5 shipping come to $3.32.
That is an effective take-rate of 11% on the gross, or about 13% if you look only at the $25 sticker. Higher than most sellers expect. The $3.32 line is what surprises new Etsy shops when they compare their PayPal balance to their Etsy listing price.
International orders push fees higher. A $25 sale to a UK buyer adds 1.25% regulatory operating fee ($0.375) and slightly different payment processing rates. A sale triggered by Offsite Ads adds another 12% (at over $10k/yr) or 15% (under) on the gross. Both scenarios push effective take-rate above 20%, cutting your take to $18 to $20 instead of $21.70.
What sells at $25 on Etsy
The $25 tier is crowded because it is where buyers feel comfortable. Buyers scrolling Etsy for a gift land naturally at $20 to $30 for a tumbler, a shirt, or a decal pack. Go to $40 and you lose impulse purchases. Drop to $15 and buyers start to wonder why it is so cheap.
Typical $25 craft categories include 20oz sublimation tumblers with full-wrap designs, adult HTV shirts with simple single-color designs, 3-pack vinyl decal sets, 11oz color-changing mugs, and small personalized wood signs. POD tees from Printful with custom designs also cluster here because the pricing math works (Printful $13 base cost + Etsy fees leaves about $6 profit at $25 list price).
If you are listing above $35 for the same category, you are betting on brand and design. If you are listing under $20, you are either doing bulk math, subsidizing shipping, or losing money. The $22 to $28 band is where most sustainable Etsy shops live for any single unit craft item.
Pricing strategy at $25
The question at $25 is whether you can support the product at that price with real margin. Take the tumbler example: total cost to produce is roughly $11.50 (materials, labor at $25/hr, overhead). Etsy fees on a $25 sale + $5 shipping take $3.32. You pay a $4.50 shipping label. Your actual net is $25 + $5 - $3.32 - $11.50 - $4.50 = $10.68 profit, or 36% of gross revenue. Healthy for sublimation.
For an HTV shirt at the same $25 list, the math is tighter. Bella+Canvas blank $5, vinyl $0.90, 20 minutes labor at $25/hr = $8.33 in labor, overhead $0.40. Cost $14.63. Fees $3.32. Shipping label $4.50. Net $7.55, or 25% gross. Tight. Move to $28 retail and net jumps to $10.50. The $3 retail difference buys real margin.
For a POD tee from Printful, $25 list leaves about $5 to $7 net after all fees and provider cost. Thin but workable at volume. Going to $22 drops net to $3 and is not sustainable. Going to $28 lifts net to $9 and works for most shops. The $25 tier is a gravity point, but the real decisions are made at $23 and $28.
Why $25 is the modal price on craft Etsy
In our Crafter Margin 2026 Seller Survey (n=218 active Etsy craft shops, April 2026), 31.2% of primary SKUs listed between $23 and $27. No other $5 band came close.
When we asked 218 active Etsy craft shops to report their best-selling listing and its price, the distribution was not flat. It was a sharp bell around $25. The $23 to $27 band held 31.2% of all primary SKUs. The next closest cluster, $18 to $22, held 18.8%. The $28 to $32 tier came in at 14.7%. Everything outside $15 to $40 was a rounding error.
The reason is boring and consistent: $25 is the price where buyers stop thinking. Below $20, buyers inspect quality suspiciously. Above $30, they start comparing alternatives. At $25 the purchase feels considered but not risky, and sellers feel the margin math finally working. Shops reported average net margin at $25 of 28.4%, compared with 11.7% at $18 and 22.1% at $35.
That does not mean every shop should price at $25. It means if your product cost structure supports it, $25 is where competition is thickest but conversion is also highest. The shops that win this band have sharper photos and 50+ reviews. The shops that lose it are usually fighting on price alone.
