Window decals are a Cricut category that lives between car decals and wedding signs. Buyers are putting decals on home windows, glass doors, storefront signage, and bathroom privacy film. Sizes range from 6x6 small accents to 24x36 large wall-to-wall installations.
The vinyl choice matters more here than for car decals. Window decals often live on glass exposed to sunlight and humidity for years. Cast vinyl (Oracal 951 or 3M 7725) outperforms calendered vinyl (651, 751) on longevity. Most buyers who want "real" window decals expect cast vinyl.
This page covers the window decal category including residential and small commercial work. For large commercial/storefront signage, pricing starts at $150 and requires different considerations.
Step 1 of 4: Garment
Garment and HTV
What you are pressing onto and how much vinyl it eats.
Blank shirt or onesie supplier cost.
Standard HTV is about $3/yd. Glitter and holographic run $5 to $8.
About 0.3 yards per full-size adult tee design.
Multi-color designs stack. Each extra layer adds about 50% of base vinyl cost.

Materials for window decals
Vinyl grade is the core variable. Oracal 651 for budget/indoor residential ($1.20/sq ft). Oracal 751 mid-tier outdoor ($1.80/sq ft). Oracal 951 premium long-life ($2.50 to $3/sq ft). 3M 7725 professional-tier ($3.25/sq ft). For window decals meant to last 5+ years, 951 or 3M is the right choice.
Transfer tape for application ($0.25 to $0.40/sq ft). On window applications especially, high-tack paper transfer tape holds better than the hybrid tapes used on shirts. Greenstar High Tack is the standard choice.
For small 6x6 decals: vinyl $0.17, tape $0.03. For 12x12 decals: $1.20 vinyl, $0.25 tape. For 24x36 decals: $7.20 vinyl (2x4 yards worth), $1.80 tape. Scale matters fast.
Production time per window decal
Design: 10 to 20 minutes depending on complexity. Window decals tend to have medium complexity (not as simple as car decals, not as detailed as wall-size).
Cut and weed: 5 to 15 minutes depending on size and complexity. Larger decals have more detailed weeding just because of surface area.
Application prep (trimming backing, cutting to final size, packaging with instructions): 3 to 5 minutes per decal. Total 18 to 40 minutes per decal single.
What window decals typically sell for
Etsy pricing: small 6x6 $12 to $18, medium 12x12 $18 to $32, large 18x24 $30 to $55, extra-large 24x36 $45 to $85. Premium cast vinyl (951) adds $3 to $10 across all sizes.
Categorical demand shifts with seasons. Christmas window decals spike November. Halloween decals spike September-October. Year-round categories include business hours signs, house numbers, and family-name monograms.
Custom commercial orders (office window branding, business signage) are a separate, higher-margin category. A branded glass door decal for a small business runs $35 to $75 retail with 70%+ margin.

At 110% margin retail $22.41. List at $24 on Etsy. Net at $24 + $3 shipping: Etsy fees $2.90, shipping label $3. Net $15.43, or 57% net. Excellent.
For 24x36 premium 951 vinyl: materials $9, labor on 32 min = $13.33. Total cost $22.33. Retail $55 at 145% margin. Net after fees and $8 shipping is $29. 53% net.
